CMV reactivation may be associated to morbility in renal transplant patients, mainly due to a failure in cellular immune surveillance of viral replication. Recent studies have proposed a role for pre-transplant evaluation of CMV-specific cellular immune response to predict the risk of reactivation post-transplantation. Further studies are required to clarify this issue.
